On My Own

Since 1997, On My Own has taught adults the basic life skills necessary for successful, independent living. Members receive customized support from our staff through:

  • Structured Classes
  • Social and Recreational Activities
  • Individualized Counseling and
  • Guidance
  • Our Apartment Living Program

Friendship Circle

Since 1994, Friendship Circle has been providing assistance and support to the families of children with special needs. The majority of the Friendship Circle's innovative work with children with special needs takes place at the Ferber Kaufman LifeTown building, a 23,000 square-foot state-of-the-art facility, which serves as a therapy and activity center, social meeting place, and hub for our network of volunteers, professional staff, and supporters...

Oakland County Michigan Parks & Recreation

Oakland County Parks strives to provide recreational and leisure opportunities for all residents of Oakland County. The Adaptive Recreation Division provides Therapeutic Recreation programs and services. Our partnerships with more than 30 non-profit agencies, schools and disabled sports organization enables Oakland County Parks to cooperatively provide unique recreation options.

Southfield: Special Forces

Southfield Parks and Recreation offers programs for individuals with cognitive impairments through the Southfield Special Forces social group. Southfield Special Forces offers social/group interaction, life skills, field trips, fitness and dance classes, bowling leagues, and special events. Programs are open to individuals of all abilities, however, those needing one-on-one supervision must be accompanied by a caregiver.

Oakland Schools

Oakland Schools serves 28 local school districts, 20 public school academies and nonpublic schools in Oakland County. Every district has a distinct character, arising from its unique community of learners and educators. Yet every one of the 28 districts shares a common goal: providing a quality education to every student. Oakland Schools works with these districts, nonpublic schools and public school academies to help each one preserve its own unique identity, respect its special needs, and deliver quality educational programs to every student in Oakland County.

The ARC of Oakland County

The Arc of Oakland County, Inc. (”The Arc”) is a premier, grass-roots membership organization working directly with children and adults within all levels of intellectual and other related developmental disabilities, and their families. The Arc’s organizational purposes broadly relate to the advocacy themes of: education, awareness, research and prevention, ensuring Constitutional rights, and the financial support of the movement.

Oakland County Mental Health

Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority is a public agency. We are privileged to serve Oakland County by providing public mental health services to adults with serious mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbances and persons with developmental disabilities. We believe people are interdependent and equal citizens regardless of ability or disability; thus, we encourage not just our service providers, but all citizens, to help individuals with disabilities develop opportunities for supportive reciprocal relationships within the community.

Community Living Services (CLS)

CLS is a private, not-for-profit organization promoting inclusion, full citizenship and a self-determined life for people with developmental disabilities. CLS, Inc. is funded by the Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency and provides supports and services to over 2,700 adults and children in Wayne County. CLS also has an office in Oakland County and is funded by the Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority.

Macomb Oakland Regional (MORC)

The Macomb-Oakland Regional Center Inc. (MORC) helps individuals with disabilities and mental illness realize their dreams and live in the community setting of their choice. We do this through comprehensive services and supports, training and education, and advocacy.

JARC

JARC is one of the nation’s largest providers of community-based Jewish residential services, serving nearly 150 adults in its group homes and various supported independent living arrangements.

Michigan Department of Community Health

Mental health services for people who have a mental illness or a developmental disability, and services for people who need care for substance abuse.

United Way

United Way is a worldwide network in 45 countries and territories, including nearly 1,300 local organizations in the U.S. It advances the common good, creating opportunities for a better life for all, by focusing on the three key building blocks of education, income and health. The United Way movement creates long lasting community change by addressing the underlying causes of problems that prevent progress in these areas.
